Gee, I need to get better at this blogging thing, but I know I keep saying that... maybe one day it will actually happen....
So the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, right?? Well, apparantly that works for baby boys too! haha! After Elijah's 4 month check up on July 1st, the pediatrician gave us the green light for starting rice cereal. We followed BabyWise's guidance with one tablespoon on one night, 2 tablespoons the next, etc, until we worked up to 4 tablespoons. We only served at dinnertime, and then gradually worked our way up to 3 meals a day of 4 tablespoons of rice cereal or oatmeal cereal (for babies.... Beech Nut is our favorite brand). Then, at the beginning of August, we graduated to vegetables. He took everything in great stride!! Although, he still makes funny faces sometimes when eating squash....so we're still working on that one!
Gradually, Elijah woke up less and less at night. Eventually, he was sleeping all night with the exception of one mid-morning nursing session (between 3 and 5 a.m.) Then one morning, he wasn't hungry for his cereal at breakfast. So for the next few nights, I just gave him 2 oz. in a bottle when he woke up at night, and that held him over 'til breakfast. Now, he is sleeping ALL NIGHT LONG!!!! WWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHOOOOOOOOOOO! Personally, I have slept SO deeply the past few nights...it has been amazing! And I'm actually setting my alarm clock now - haven't done that since before he was born! Although, I confess, I still take afternoon catnaps sometimes.... :)
Another new piece of interesting news... We have decided to convert to cloth diapers! I know....many of you (if not all of you) immediately got a vision in your head of oversized safetypins and figuring out how to fold those big pieces of white material.....No...please ..... allow me to introduce you to the world of modern-day cloth diapering! Try googling Bum Genius...Best Bottoms... or some others.... We bought our Best Bottoms cloth diapers from a small store in Farmers Branch called www.babiesbottomsandmore.com and we LOVE THEM! They are so easy to put on and change and wash - I have enough laundry to do anyways, so I usually do a load about every other day, so it's not that bad....I will try to snap a picture of Elijah wearing one soon and post it on here.
Other than these things, we are moving right along! Elijah is now officially 6 months (as of August 21st) although his 6 month check up is not until Sept. 19th....We'll post again soon with all kinds of new updates!
