Well, Elijah Jordan Dickson was born at 3:02 p.m. on Monday, February 21, 2011. He weighed 8 lbs and measured 21 inches long. With God's strength, the help and support of my doula, Sara, her mom the midwife, Dana, and my amazing husband, Gavin, I was able to experience the natural birth that I had prayed for - all glory to God!
In just 2 days, Elijah will already be one month old! We have definitely had many adjustments to make with a little baby in the house! Nonetheless, we recognize that we have the choice to cherish each and every moment, even the frustrating moments! haha! I read somewhere that "the days go by slow but the months and years go by fast." So, I am trying to keep that in mind and admire every little dimple, freckle, strand of hair, and even to laugh at all his burps and toots (even the poopy toots, right after I just changed his diaper!!!)
Gavin is an awesome father, of course making his own adjustments, but he does such a great job at helping out where he can, and I love watching him spend "father-son time" with Elijah. Elijah just gazes up into his daddy's face, and he even reached for Gavin's beard! Too cute! Elijah is feeding great, about every 2.5 to 3 hours. He has plenty of "wake time" during the day so that usually, he sleeps solid between his night time feedings, although of course we have our little "hiccups" and "doozies."
He did experience a GREAT growth spurt this past week. Wednesday, about lunchtime, I noticed he seemed abnormally fussy and he was already hungry again. Well, for the next 24 hours, he pretty much just ate and slept, feeding about every 2 hours instead of every 3 hours. On Thursday, I texted a picture to my mother-in-law who said he had already grown since the previous weekend! To me, that confirmed the growth spurt. Well, but then Gavin stood on the scale with Elijah, and then handed him to me, and it was a 9.5 lb difference, so we guess that's about how much he weighs. Wow!
Well, I'm going to try to attach some pictures now. Until our next update, BLESSINGS from the Dickson Family!
